Guardian Program
The Guardian Program is a dedicated group of Sons of Confederate Veteran Members committed to preserving and honoring our historical heritage through meticulous care and restoration of Confederate Veterans' headstones and the rejuvenation of overgrown cemeteries. Our mission is to ensure that the sacrifices and legacies of those who served are remembered with the dignity and respect they deserve.
What We Do:
Headstone Restoration: We meticulously clean and restore Confederate Veterans' headstones, addressing wear and tear caused by time and weather. Our team uses gentle techniques and specialized materials to ensure that each headstone is preserved while maintaining its historical integrity.
Cemetery Clean-Up: We tackle overgrown and neglected cemeteries, clearing debris, pruning vegetation, and repairing damaged structures. Our goal is to create a respectful and welcoming environment for visitors and descendants.
Community Engagement: We work closely with local communities and organizations to raise awareness about the importance of historical preservation. Through educational outreach and volunteer opportunities, we foster a greater understanding of our shared heritage.
Why It Matters:
Preserving historical sites and headstones is not just about maintaining physical structures; it's about honoring the memories of those who came before us. By caring for these markers and sites, we ensure that future generations can connect with and learn from our past, fostering a sense of respect and continuity.
Get Involved:
We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds and skill levels to join us in our efforts. Whether you’re interested in hands-on restoration work, organizing community events, or simply spreading the word about our mission, there are many ways to contribute to the Guardian Program.
